Find a bunch of 2p coins, encourage your child to count them, counting in 2s as they did with the skip counting. If this is tricky add some stickers so they can see that each coin is ‘worth’ 2. put out four coins, counting 2, 4, 6, 8… if you have stickers on them just cound the stickers in ones to demonstrate that there are indeed 8.

Turn the coins over and ask the child to count them again, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 – turn them back and check by looking (and counting) the stickers individually. You can emphasis the count by whispering and shouting the numbers:

1,  2       3,  4       5,  6       7,  8       9,  10

 Finally, use the multiplication symbol and write a few times tables links like this

1 x 2 = 2 (1 coin)

2 x 2 = 4 (2 coins)

2 x 3 = 6 (3 coins)
